Colloidal Silver in various forms was used as a mainstream medicine in the late 1800's and early 1900's. It was replaced by modern antibiotics in the mid 1900's and rediscovered in the 1980's and 1990's. As an unapproved new drug or a nutritional supplement, depending on the language used to describe it, it was an orphan looking for a home. It did, however, attract a lot of attention. After significant research and development by scientists and inventors, new products, production methods, and applications are appearing. There has recently been a number of new patents issued and applied for regarding colloidal silver, silver products and their medical applications. In recent years, there have also been hundreds of new articles published in scientific and medical journals that relate to silver, colloidal silver, and nano-silver in some fashion.
Silver, silver colloids, and silver salts have a long history of use in medicine as antiseptics and antibiotics. Colloidal Silver is not approved by the FDA. It is, however, widely sold as a nutritional supplement. When it is sold as a nutritional supplement, colloidal silver manufacturers are banned from providing consumers any information about its safe and effective usage.
